REA (Reverse Engineer Anything)
REA is an MCP server and CLI that gives an agent the tools to take apart software you have no source code for: native binaries, Electron apps, .NET assemblies, Android APKs, websites, network captures. It installs with `npx rea-agents setup`, and the analysis runs on your machine.
Strengths
- MIT licence, free, the analysis runs locally
- One server for very different targets (binary, JavaScript, APK, network)
- JavaScript and .NET analysis needs no native engine
Limitations
- Deep native analysis needs Hopper, Ghidra or IDA, which you install yourself: REA ships none, and Hopper and IDA are paid
- Lawful scope: research, interoperability, software you have the right to. Taking software apart stays subject to copyright and the target’s terms
- Minor updates can break (according to a third-party guide): pin an exact version, and the announced number of tools varies from one source to another
- Runtime capture runs the target with your user rights
Best for
- A developer who must interface with closed software whose format or API they are entitled to examine
