A periodic maintenance ritual for an agent's memory files, in four ordered actions: merge entries that say the same thing, archive the obsolete without deleting it, promote recurring learnings to the rank of rules (into CLAUDE.md or rules files), and reorganize with an index at the top of each file so the agent finds without reloading everything. The image that holds: a library of 50 books can be browsed by eye, one of 50,000 with no classification demands rereading everything. Consolidation is the tidying that makes retrieval possible.
