GSD v2 (pi)
Standalone version of GSD v2, installed through the official GSD Core installer (`npx @opengsd/gsd-core@latest`), it deploys 24 agent .md files (planner, executor, verifier…), hooks, and shared skills locally. Full control: read, modify and version every agent. Lighter alternative: the Claude Code marketplace plugin (gsd-plugin), no git or npm, but a black box.
Strengths
- Auto-mode: chains dozens of tasks autonomously with fresh context
- Built-in state machine: milestones, phases, slices, full traceability
- Automatic replan on blockers: agent reassesses and adjusts the roadmap
- Persistent artifacts: ROADMAP.md, PLAN.md, PROGRESS.md across sessions
- Full control: every agent is a local .md file, readable, modifiable, and versionable
Limitations
- Learning curve for /gsd:* commands, initialization ritual required
- Documentation overhead: generates many Markdown files to manage
- Less suited for micro-tasks: excessive overhead for a typo fix
Best for
- Solo projects with Claude Code requiring long autonomous execution
- Migrations, multi-file refactors, complex features across sessions
