Canvas Design
A skill Anthropic publishes in its official skills repository. It produces a static visual piece (poster, visual, board) in two passes: Claude first writes a short design philosophy, four to six paragraphs on form, space, colour and composition, then turns it into a PNG or PDF file where the visual dominates and text stays an accent. The instructions forbid copying an existing artist's work.
Strengths
- Outputs a usable PNG or PDF, not a mockup to rebuild
- The philosophy written before the render can be read and corrected, which avoids regenerating blind
- The instructions forbid copying an existing artist: less risk of shipping a pastiche of a protected work
Limitations
- Drawing with code: no photographic rendering and no detailed illustration
- The carousels' 'combine all' (`npx claude skills add canvas-design --skill ...`) is not a real command: the right one is `npx skills add https://github.com/anthropics/skills --skill canvas-design --skill brand-guidelines --skill theme-factory`
Best for
- An event poster, a report cover, an announcement visual made by a non-designer
- An illustration for an article or newsletter, when a stock photo would look generic
- A series of visuals that must share one intent, since the written philosophy can be reused from piece to piece
