Amplitude
A behaviour-oriented product analytics tool: it does not count page views, it tracks named events (signup completed, project created, export started) and reconstructs what people do between two of them. From there come its three useful readings: the funnel, showing at which step people drop; retention, showing who comes back a week later; and pathfinding, showing the route actually taken, often different from the intended one. The platform also includes session replay, feature flags and experimentation. The free plan covers 2 million events per month with no time limit, and seats are unlimited on every plan: event volume sets the price, not team size.
Strengths
- Unlimited seats on every plan, product data stays readable by the whole team
- 2 million events per month free, with no time limit
- Funnels, retention and real user paths are native, with no queries to build
Limitations
- Without a tracking plan written in advance, the data becomes unreadable within months
- Hosted proprietary service, no self-hosting available
- Past the free plan, per-event billing needs to be watched closely
- Individual behaviour tracked over time: consent and retention period must be settled before install
Best for
- A product team that has to settle where the signup journey loses its users
- Several teams reading the same data who cannot depend on a licence count
