App Store asset best practices (Apple)
Apple's official guide to the visuals of an App Store listing. It says, element by element, what to design: the icon, the product page header, the search-results visual, in-app events, screenshots (up to 10) and video previews (up to 3). It also sets content rules: no prices, web addresses or logos of another platform, no unverifiable award, visuals acceptable at 4+. It ends on submission (App Store Connect or its API) and two ways to go further: custom product pages and product page optimization.
Strengths
- Official source: what Apple says it accepts, per visual type, with the limits (10 screenshots, 3 previews)
- Explicit content rules that avoid a rejection: no price, no competitor logo, no unverifiable award
- Points to custom product pages and product page optimization to test what comes next
Limitations
- It is a specification, not a method: it does not say what to show to make people want to download
- Formats and timing change with iOS: reread the page before each batch of visuals
Best for
- A designer preparing the launch visuals of an iOS app
- A PM validating an App Store listing who wants to check content rules before submission
- A team automating visual uploads that wants to know what the App Store Connect API accepts
