Visual regression testing platform built by the Storybook team. Captures snapshots of every component on every PR (Chrome only on Free, cross-browser from Starter) and flags any pixel drift. Also includes accessibility testing (WCAG), interaction testing and UI Review for designers/PMs.

Limitations
- Free tier capped at 5,000 snapshots/month and Chrome only, runs out fast in a team
- Free → Starter jump is brutal at $179/month, no intermediate plan
- Overage at $0.008/snapshot, bill can climb fast without monitoring
- Moderate lock-in: snapshots and history live at Chromatic, not self-hostable
Best for
- Design system teams with Storybook wanting to close the visual regression loop
- Projects where designers and PMs must approve UI before merge without pulling code locally
- Critical components (buttons, forms, layouts) that must stay pixel-perfect
