Learn Git Branching
A git simulator in the browser: a terminal on the left, the commit tree on the right, moving with every command you type. A commit adds a dot, a branch splits the tree in two, a merge closes it again. After the introductory levels (commit, branch, merge, rebase) it drops you into real trouble: undoing a commit, picking a single commit from the middle of a branch, getting out when a fictional colleague pushed before you. It is a fake project: you cannot break anything, at worst you undo and restart the level. Free, no account, no install, MIT licence.
Strengths
- The commit tree moves with every command: you learn the mental model, not a list to memorise
- Fake project: nothing to break, an undo or a level reset is enough, no account and no install
- Real situations (undoing a commit, a rejected push, a commit to retrieve) and a score by number of commands
Limitations
- A simulator: commits without content, so no file conflict and no real repository
- Interface and vocabulary in English by default; the French translation is reported by the video, not by the repo
Best for
- A designer or PM who is about to ask an AI for git operations and wants to know what can be asked
- A junior developer who mixes up merge and rebase and dares not try on their repo
- A team workshop: a shared exercise before adopting a branching rule
