LottieFiles
A library of vector animations in the Lottie format, shipped with the player that runs them. You need a loading spinner, a success check or an animated empty state: grab the JSON file, hand it to the player, done. Public animations are free under the Lottie Simple License. The web player is written in Rust compiled to WASM, with official React, Vue, Svelte, Solid and web-component packages, plus iOS, Android and React Native.
Strengths
- The player is the real product: Rust compiled to WASM, with official React, Vue, Svelte and Solid packages
- Public animations are free under the Lottie Simple License, usable in commercial work
- A JSON file stays editable and weighs a fraction of the equivalent video or GIF
Limitations
- The catalogue mixes free and paid, so you filter before falling in love with the wrong file
- A found animation is not an on-brand animation: without rework, your interface borrows someone else style
- The player adds a package to your bundle for a need that sometimes amounts to three lines of CSS
Best for
- A product whose waiting and confirmation states are mute and make it feel like nothing is happening
- A designer with no motion designer on the team who needs the result this week
