OpenCode
Open source coding agent (MIT license) that runs in your terminal. It talks to any model provider: Claude, GPT, Gemini or a local model, with the key of your choice. You keep the usual coding-agent loop (it reads your repo, proposes changes, runs commands) without depending on a single subscription.
Strengths
- Open source (MIT) and provider-agnostic: you swap models without swapping tools
- The harness runs locally: your files only go to the model you chose
- Familiar agent loop in the terminal: repo reading, proposed edits, commands run
Limitations
- October 2026 incident on the hosted Console: provider keys stored there were exposed for 1.4% of Console users (publisher's statement, exact scope not published)
- A cheap model behind a coding agent quickly fumbles tool calls: quality depends on the model you plug in
Best for
- Developers who want to compare several models inside the same terminal agent
- Teams that refuse to depend on a single model provider
